the story behind alva

Alva was founded by Candice King, a health equity and engagement specialist who lives with Cystic Fibrosis. After 32 years of navigating a complex condition, she realised that even experienced clinicians can struggle to offer truly personalised care - not because they lack expertise, but because they often lack access to enough data and the day-to-day health trends that shape someone’s real experience. That's how Alva was born! A platform designed to empower people with meaningful, understandable health data - starting with regular, at home blood testing. Candice saw how powerful blood test data could be - but also how inaccessible and unexplained it often was. By learning about key biomarkers like vitamin levels, inflammation and hormonal changes over time, and making subsequent lifestyle changes after getting regular blood tests, Candice saw real improvements in her own health. More than just data, it was actionable insight that made the difference. With a focus on clinical rigour, biomarker interpretations are built on clinical reference ranges, peer reviewed evidence, and user specific context - including age, sex and personal health goals.Alva works with UKAS accredited laboratories but just as importantly, it’s built on a commitment to equity of access - making personal health information available in ways that are clear, inclusive, and actually useful. At its heart, Alva is about putting people in control of their own health story - with tools designed not for patients, but for people.
